Maidie Canard Clements, age 89, of Bigelow, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018. She was born January 24, 1929 in Tuckerman, a daughter of the late William Walter "Bill" Canard and the late Birdie Mae Bangs Canard.
She moved to Blytheville, at the age of seven, attended school at Dell where she was active in all school activities: cheerleading, president of pep squad, president of senior class, and student council.
She was a member of Bigelow Church of Christ; 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron of Blytheville Chapter #279 and Perryville Chapter #452 (2 times), Deputy Grand Lecturer (2 times), Grand Representative of Scotland: where she traveled to Scotland and attended the General Grand Chapter. She served on various committees as State Chairman-Raising Funds for different charities and promoting membership in the order.
She traveled a lot-going to Europe several times visiting Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Canary Islands, England, Scotland, and several others. She enjoyed a visit to Hawaii- going to three islands: Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: Winford "Pete" Burgess and Bob Clements; a son: Michael Keith Burgess; three brothers: Shelby Canard, Preston Canard, Jesse Canard and his twin sister Bessie (infants); sisters: Myrtle Helms and husband Clarence; Vada Connelly and husband Erskine, Nellie Greenwood and husband Jack, Monnie Sue Nicholas and husband Ira; several nieces, nephews; and great-nieces, great-nephews.
She is survived by one daughter: Sharon Richardson Rankin; two grandsons: Brian Richardson (Lisa) and Jason Richardson (Tina); one granddaughter: Melanie Mitchell (Joe); four great-grandsons: Michael Mezes (Kaylee), Nicky Richardson, Dylan Richardson, and Cody Mitchell; one great-great-grandson: Asher Mezes; one great-great-granddaughter: Aubree Lynn Mezes; two step-great-granddaughters: Laura and Jennifer Coppersmith; one step-great-grandson: Grayson Wade; and one step-great-great-grandson: Bronx Broadie.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Harris Chapel with Bro. John Chapman officiating. Burial will be at Volman Cemetery in Bigelow. Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
